Kicking off the Amorphous Sounds Singles Club, Deep Throat Choir release“Like a Mountain” - a reworking of the 1970’s protest song, “You Can’t Kill the Spirit”. The original song was written by Naomi Littlebear Morena in 1977, and became the leading anthem of the Greenham Common Women’s Peace Camp - a live-in occupation and protest movement against nuclear armament, spanning over 20 years.
The choir was due to perform the music of Greenham Common at the Barbican, as part of an evening celebrating “The Lark Ascending”, by Richard King, a book which considers the relationship between the British landscape and various 20th century cultural and political moments.
That was the spring the pandemic arrived, and so instead, we have a remotely recorded song and video, bringing the group back to Littlebear’s rousing anthem, arranged here by choir member Tanya Auclair.
