Written as a game of consequences, “The Real Thing” started life with Heloise and some modular synths, finding a sound like a distant motorbike or foghorn, and shimmering bells.

As is their practice, each member of Blood Moon Project then took one element to build the foundations of the track, with Tanya writing in a bassline, and Lu on a TR-8 beat. In the midst of pandemic isolation, lyrically, and musically, the song became a deep and heavy rhythm and bass-driven yearning for physical contact and real human connection - to be in sweaty rooms, heaving with friends and strangers, elevated in time and space - a yearning for The Real Thing!

Blood Moon Project have reunited with previous collaborators DBLG on the music video for “The Real Thing”. The award-winning digital agency decided to mirror the Blood Moon Project writing process but with visuals, each of their artists taking a different section and working independently from one another, without hearing or seeing any of the other segments. It’s astonishing how much each of the works speak to the music, and to one another, to create an intuitive and  and fluid whole.
